Play and Learn experience

I have learned many things in completing Play and Learn. While I don't feel very competent with many of the tools, I now know about them and hope in the future to utilize some of them. If nothing else my vocabulary has increased; ie. Twitter, Wiki, Del,icio.us.

All of CML has benefited from this experience. Think of the number of staff who now are familiar with the tools or are actively using them. My branch now has both blogs and a wiki.

Download From CML home page

I was not successful downloading anything. Some time in the future I will have someone help me.

wiki

I just recently read Here Comes Everybody, the Power of Organizing without Organizations. In it there is an excellent history of Wikipedia and the collaboration needed to create and maintain it.

I added my favorite children's book to the playandlearn wike.

Podcasts

Podcasts offer the opportunity to hear speakers at library events without being present at a conference or workshop.

Google docs

am so impressed on another free Google service. I can see how Google Docs would make document sharing so much easier than using attachemnts

2.0 Award winners

I looked at the 2nd award winner Urbanspoon. It is a listing of restaurants in Columbus. The Starliner in Hilliard was listed as a "Cheap Eat" as well as a great place for breakfast.

Tool Box

I've explored a few of the tools. In doing so I discovered Robert Sabuda's webstie while exploring StumbleUp. I plan to copy some of the patterns he shares for my granddaughter.

Library Success

It was interesting to browse this wiki. Staff from CML could offer many examples of successful implementation of changes in most of the catergories listed.

Web 2.0

I am glad I had the opportunity to read Rick Anderson's essay. He makes a lot of pertinent points.

Del.icio.us

Tags could be very helpful in keeping track of some useful sites I can't remember and sites I want to explore in the future.

LibraryThing

I will explore LibraryThing more thoroughly in the future. It may be found to be part of one of the groups.

Twitter

I am not going to Twitter. The following quote "speaks" for me. Definition of Twitter by Roy Tenant, "A methody by which those who beliee their every move should be of great interest to others can inflict such details on a self-selected set of masochistic persons called, in an oddly religious allusion, followers. (LJ 9/1/08 p13)

Image generators

I can see the "fun" potential in this!

Comments on Flickr

In the little time I have had to explore Flickr I have been so impressed with the creativity and variety of photographs from the mundane to the beautiful. It is both an interesting site and an exciting place to share with others your interest.
Someday I planned to have the time to create artist trading cards such as this. (Found on Flickr)

Lifelong Learning

Setting goals, Habit 1, is fairly easy to do. Using technology to my advantage, Habit 6, is not something I always take advantage of.

Welcome to my blog

I have always enjoyed sewing and crafts. Years ago I made my own clothes including my wedding gown and going away suit. I have dabbled in quilting, cross-stitch and painting ceramics. I have always wanted to draw and paint and plan to take classes when I retire. For now I make cards; it is my creative outlet. I am very good at copying ideas from the significant number of books and magazines I own.

While card making takes time it does not require the time and space demanded of quilting and many other hobbies. I only make and give cards to people who would appreciate the thought and care of a homemade card.

I would love to exchange ideas with other CML staff who also make cards.
